From road races on Cape Cod to spin-classes aboard the USS Constitution in the Charlestown Navy Yard, it’s been a busy summer at Home Base! Here’s a look back at Home Base happenings from the last few months, plus a look ahead at what’s in store for fall.
Adventure Series with Peabody Essex Museum
Home Base teamed up with Peabody Essex Museum to host an Adventure Series event in April 2018. The event was inspired by artist and Vietnam War Veteran T.C. Cannon and themes in the exhibition T.C. Cannon: At the Edge of America. Military families enjoyed a free day at the museum, complete with tours and art making. All throughout April, PEM museum goers were invited to write a letter of thanks to Service Members and Veterans. The letters will be distributed to patients in treatment at Home Base’s two-week intensive clinical program (ICP).
Derek Hines Flag Day 5K
The Home Base team was proud to once again be part of the annual 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund “Flag Day 5K,” an annual charity run through the heart of Newburyport, MA. Newburyport resident and Chief Operating Officer of Home Base, Michael Allard, spoke to the crowd during the opening ceremony. He thanked 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund for the indelible impact they have had on the community. The 1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund pledged $30,000 in support of Home Base’s mission to heal the invisible wounds.
Home Base Warrior Health & Fitness Spin Class on the Constitution
On August 15, Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program partnered with Rev’d Indoor Cycling to host a first-of-its-kind spin class aboard the historic USS Constitution. With one mission in mind: to make vets sweat, the class brought together local community supporters and nearly 30 Veterans enrolled in Home Base’s Warrior Health & Fitness Program for an unforgettable cycle class with a view.
Falmouth Road Race
Home Base was proud to be listed as an official charity partner of the 2018 Falmouth Road Race. A group of eight runners participated in the 10K event, fundraising in support of Home Base’s mission to heal the invisible wounds. The runners were joined by Home Base staff and volunteers, who helped with the flag raising during the National Anthem at the beginning of the race and assisted with security at the finish line.
